When is Halloween?

Halloween of course is always on the 31st of October each year, this year (2022) it will fall on Monday the 31st October 2022. Halloween day is also known as Hallows Eve its the day before All Hallows Day which is also known by most people as All Saints Day on the Christian calendar. The word Hallows comes from the old English language meaning “hallowed” which means “made holy” but now everyone knows this day as our Happy Halloween.

Why do we go trick or treating?

Trick or treating is common in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The tradition of trick-or-treating dates back to the ancient Celts. Where people impersonated the souls of the dead or spirits and received offerings on their behalf. Originally it’s said that people would dress up and perform dances to scare off any spirits that may be lurking, in exchange for food and drink, and normally rewarded with a type of pastry called “soul cakes“. The tradition has continued through time to the present day where children now dress up in customs, going door-to-door, trick or treating, and receiving candy.
