These chocolate shards make great cake toppers for celebration cakes. They are so easy to make and turn a simple cake into an extravaganza of chocolate. In the past, I have made smaller shards to use as party favors too. These chocolate shards can also be used as great homemade edible gifts for loved ones.

Instructions

  • To make the chocolate shards, brake up both white and milk chocolate into separate bowls and melt. You can do this by placing the bowl over a simmering pan of water for a couple of minutes or using a microwave and stirring every 30 seconds until melted.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pour the milk chocolate onto the tray and smooth with a spatula,
  • Then drizzle the white chocolate over the top and using a skewer swirl the two chocolates together.
  • Before the chocolate sets add on your choice of tiny toppings, I used what I had to hand which were chocolate strands, granola, chocolate jazzies, chocolate curls, and mini smarties. But you can use whatever you like the skies the limit.

  • Place the tray into the fridge to cool and set. Once it's set, cut your chocolate into shards. I found it easier to cut the chocolate using my rocking pizza cutter.

    1. Yes of course, the best thing about making celebration cakes is being creative with toppings, no one ever complains when you go mad with extra goodies on top of your cake.
