These giant chocolate silicone heart molds seem to be trending right now, so I had to try making one myself. What can I say, I love anything that’s chocolate. Plus these hearts look amazing in pink and white chocolate. Making them the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day.
I ordered my silicone heart mold from Amazon. This silicone mold is really easy to use and it’s more flexible than some that I’ve seen for sale.
I know that some people have had trouble removing their chocolate from their molds. As some molds are too thick and not as easy to bend. My pink chocolate came out easy the first time and didn’t break once. I have made I few more hearts since this one and I haven’t had any problems yet. The silicone mold set I bought, also came with 3 mini hammers for smashing and 2 handy scrapers. Smashing the chocolate heart is certainly a high point in the whole experience, so make sure to get your cute little hammers.
How big is a chocolate breakable heart mold?
The silicone heart mold set above comes with one large diamond heart-shaped cake mold, which measures 21.5cm wide, 20.5cm tall, and 5.5cm in depth. It also comes with a 6-cavity 3D heart-shaped mold: 22cm by 17cm by 2.2cm. Also included is a letter chocolate mold for alphabets and numbers, which is 25cm by 11cm and 1.5cm in depth. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the cute mold-smashing hammer, which is 14.1cm tall by 4.2 cm wide. You also get one scraper and two droppers for decorating with your melted chocolate.
Chocolate Heart Gift Ideas
These chocolate hearts make excellent gifts for any occasion. I made this heart pink for Valentine’s Day. But you can make it dark chocolate for a birthday present; green for St Patrick’s day, or orange for Halloween. I think you get the picture.
Something that would also be super, is adding two colors together such as pink and baby blue. You could use it at a baby shower for the gender reveal. All you have to do is fill the heart with pink or baby blue candy depending on the gender of the baby.
Then the mum and dad-to-be can smash the chocolate heart open to reveal what their little bundle of joy is going to be. Skies the limit with this silicone heart mold.
I plan on using this mold a lot this year, so if you’re a close friend of mine, you’re probably getting a chocolate heart lol.
What is a chocolate heart smash?
Chocolate heart smashes are when these gifted chocolate heart-shaped shells, like Easter eggs almost, are smashed open. You can plan a heart smashing for celebrations such as baby showers, birthdays, valentines anniversaries, or even a marriage proposal. Here’s a little clip of a Valentines’ heart smash I did, which I thoroughly enjoyed, by the way.
What chocolate is used for smash hearts?
For these breakable hearts, it’s best to use real chocolate. I find the Callebaut chocolate tastes great and comes in little chocolate buttons which makes it really easy to melt without breaking off huge chunks of chocolate over the stove. You can just measure the quantity you need for the recipe. This chocolate heart uses 320g of chocolate but you would want at least double that just in case it all goes wrong and you need to restart. Or maybe you just want one for yourself, too. These chocolate hearts are quite large, so buying in bulk will save you extra trips to the supermarket.
What do you put in a breakable chocolate heart?
Chocolate heart molds like easter eggs make a creative space you can fill with anything that you would otherwise deem safe to store with food. So you can fill your chocolate heart with colorful themed candy, other smaller cakes, wrapped gifts, or even chocolate-covered strawberries like the ones in Love Food Feed’s chocolate strawberry bouquet recipe. You can use your chocolate heart as an edible breakable serving bowl.

Just remember to always store your chocolate heart in a cool dry place. To store your chocolate heart, make sure to wrap it tightly with cling film and store it in a large airtight container. What’s the best chocolate to use for Smash hearts? Cooking chocolate or dairy chocolate?
Hello Hanna, I use Callebaut Belgium white chocolate Callets: https://amzn.to/3mgeCNo for my chocolate hearts, you can also use cooking chocolate. White chocolate allows you to create different color smashable hearts for different occasions. Good luck with your creating your heart.
This recipe is for big hearts , I’m making small ones but my white chocolate doesn’t stick to the mould also whe taking it out it breaks and it’s not as thin as in the video, what should i do???
Hi Noor,
I am not sure why the your chocolate is not sticking to your silicone molds are you using a pastry brush? Also if your chocolate mold is breaking when removing it from the molds, it is likely your chocolate is to thin, you can fix this by adding a second layer of melted chocolate after the first layer has set and cooled in the fridge. Also make sure your chocolate has fully set before removing your heart molds.
