There is a quiet joy in baking donuts at home. The kitchen warms gently. The batter comes together in one bowl. The donuts emerge from the oven golden and fragrant, their soft interiors just waiting to be dipped in a glossy, pink glaze. These vegan baked donuts are light, sweet, and charming, with a cheerful simplicity that makes them ideal for breakfast, dessert, or anytime in between.
This recipe is proof that comfort food can be both plant-based and indulgent. Made without eggs or dairy, and without the need for deep frying, these donuts are a win for anyone looking to create bakery-style treats using just a mixing bowl and a donut tin.
A Donut for the Modern Kitchen
Traditional donuts often rely on yeast, eggs, and frying oil, which can make them feel like a weekend project. These baked vegan donuts skip all of that. The dough is mixed in minutes using pantry staples, poured into a donut pan, and baked until just firm. Apple cider vinegar and plant milk combine to mimic the richness and tenderness of buttermilk, while baking powder provides the rise.
The result is a soft, moist donut that holds its shape and takes beautifully to icing. The strawberry glaze is tinted with a few drops of food coloring and finished with playful sprinkles. The color is reminiscent of the classic cartoon donut, but the flavor is all grown up.
Store-Bought Options
If baking isn’t an option, there are a few store‑bought vegan donuts worth trying.
In the UK, Krispy Kreme sells a certified‑vegan Original Glazed donut (and several other vegan varieties) available both in stores and for national delivery including Classics like Chocolate Orange, Caramel Iced Ring, Strawberry Iced Ring, Cookies & Kreme, and more.
Greggs also offers a vegan‑friendly Glazed Ring Doughnut; the recipe for its classic glazed ring was updated to be fully vegan and that item is now sold in stores nationwide.
In the United States, Dunkin’ does not currently offer vegan donuts. They do carry vegan‑friendly items like bagels, hash browns, avocado toast, and even the accidentally vegan Braided Apple Pie—but no plant‑based donuts are on the menu as of 2025.
Until more bakeries and chains expand their vegan donut options, baking at home remains the most reliable and satisfying way to enjoy fresh plant‑based donuts.

Instructions
To make the donuts
- First things first preheat your oven to 190°C/ 375°F
- Add the milk and apple cider vinegar into a bowl, and leave it for 10 minutes to let the milk curdle.1.5 tsp Apple cider vinegar, 190 milliliters Unsweetened soya milk

- Simply whisk the ingredients together for about a minute or until the mixture has a smooth and creamy consistency.
- Pour the vegan donut mixture from the bowl into a measuring jug.
- Grease the donut tin (for this you can use spray oil or vegan butter).
- Then simply pour the vegan donut mixture into the donut rings on the tin (try not to get any of the mixture on the centers, as we want our donuts to have empty middles).
- Then simply pop your donuts into your preheated oven for 12 minutes (with different ovens times can vary).
- Once cooked leave the donuts in the donut tin for a minute to cool slightly (waiting makes it easier to get your delicious donuts out of the tin).
- Next place the vegan donuts onto a wire rack to cool.
- While the donuts are cooling grab your ingredients to make the beautiful icing to go on top of your vegan baked donuts.
To make the Icing
- Again this is super easy to make, simply add the ingredients into a Pyrex bowl and stir together until it's smooth and runny, with a very sticky texture.
