If there’s one dish that has completely stolen my heart, it’s Avocado Toast. There’s something about the combination of creamy avocado, tangy lemon, and just the right amount of seasoning, all piled high on a slice of perfectly toasted sourdough bread. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it’s so satisfying that I find myself making it over and over again.
When I first discovered Avocado Toast, I was hooked instantly. It’s one of those recipes that feels indulgent but is actually super healthy, which makes it a win-win in my book. Plus, it’s endlessly customizable! Whether you’re keeping it simple with just avocado and chili flakes or adding extras like a poached egg, tomatoes, or a sprinkle of seeds, you can make it exactly how you like it.
How I Make My Avocado Toast
Making Avocado Toast couldn’t be simpler, but I’ve learned a few tricks along the way to make it absolutely perfect every time. First, I always choose a ripe avocado, it should give slightly when you press it gently. Once I’ve halved it and removed the pit, I scoop out the flesh and mash it with a fork in a bowl.
The lemon juice is a must for me. It adds a bright, zesty flavor and keeps the avocado from browning. I like to season it with a pinch of chili flakes for a bit of heat, plus sea salt and black pepper to bring everything together.
For the bread, I’m all about sourdough. Its tangy flavor and sturdy texture are the perfect match for the creamy avocado. After toasting it until it’s golden and crisp, I sometimes brush it with a little extra virgin olive oil for extra richness. Then I pile on the avocado mixture, sprinkle a few more chili flakes on top, and dig in!
Tips for the Best Avocado Toast
- Choose the Right Avocado: A ripe avocado is key. If it’s not ripe, it won’t mash well, and if it’s overripe, it can taste bitter.
- Experiment with Toppings: Add sliced radishes, cherry tomatoes, crumbled feta, or a drizzle of hot honey for extra flavor.
- Toast Matters: Make sure your bread is well-toasted so it holds up under the avocado and doesn’t go soggy.
- Customize the Texture: Whether you like your avocado super smooth or a bit chunky, mash it to your liking.

- Bread Choice: While sourdough adds a delightful tang and crunch, any sturdy bread works well. Wholegrain or rye are also great options.
