This whipped iced Dalgona coffee delivers a creamy, fluffy delight with every sip. It transforms three humble ingredients into a show-stopping drink perfect for afternoon pick-me-ups or weekend brunch.

I first tried making it as a hand-whisk challenge on our YouTube channel. My arms shook when I finished beating the mixture. The payoff was delightful. After that first taste I purchased an electric whisk to make the process effortless and fast. If you are planning to enjoy this drink regularly, I recommend doing the same.

Origins and Charm

Dalgona coffee originates in South Korea and takes its name from a honeycomb toffee candy called Dalgona. The foam is sweet and richly caramel colored. To make the drink you whisk equal parts instant coffee granules, sugar and hot water until the texture is pale and frothy. Then scoop the cloud of whipped foam on top of milk. It is an artful and comforting result.

Its rise in popularity came from TikTok. Home baristas were drawn to the striking layering and velvety texture. I was among them. I live far from coffee shops that offer Dalgona, so recreating it at home felt exciting. It became my new favorite coffee treat.

Health Points in a Frothy Sip

Coffee delivers moments of alertness and focus. Instant coffee used here still contains antioxidants linked to lower risk of conditions such as liver disease and type 2 diabetes. That creamy Dalgona foam adds sweetness and texture but does not negate the beverage’s vitality.

I enjoy experimenting with Dalgona foam in other recipes. One good example is my Dalgona chocolate chip cookies. The foam adds an extra layer of softness and flavor that friends loved. That recipe became a hit at our coffee mornings.

Equipment You Need

  • A sturdy electric hand mixer or small stand mixer. It whips faster and saves your arms.
  • A medium mixing bowl—glass, ceramic or stainless steel works well.
  • Measuring spoons for accuracy.
  • Tall glasses filled with ice cubes and milk.

Notes

Tips and Tricks
Using an electric hand whisk makes light work of whisking up the light fluffy Dalgona whip. Using a full stand mixer doesn't work well as it doesn't mix the contents as the Dalgona ingredients are too low in volume.

Why This Drink Works So Well

The contrast makes this drink captivating. Cold, smooth milk at the base pairs with warm, velvety coffee foam on top. The sweetness balances the coffee’s bitterness. The texture difference turns every sip into a small discovery. It is elegant enough for company and simple enough for daily use.

Variations You Might Enjoy

  • Add a dusting of cocoa powder or cinnamon to the whipped foam for extra flavor.
  • Use vanilla syrup or coconut sugar instead of white sugar for a gentle flavor shift.
  • Try oat or almond milk for dairy-free richness.
  • Create layered versions with chocolate milk at the bottom.
  • Serve the foam hot over warm milk for a latte version.

Discovering Signature Moments

I remember crafting one cup while sipping coffee on a porch at sunrise. The gentle morning light hit the whipped foam and made it glow softly. That moment became a favorite memory in my journey as a recipe developer. Creating dishes and drinks that feel special is what Love Food Feed aims for.
