Let’s start with the Vertuo Next features. This beautiful and sleek coffee machine can make five different cup sizes. Alto Coffee 414ml (14 oz), Coffee mug 230ml (8oz), Gran Lungo 150ml (5 oz), Double Espresso 80ml (2.7 oz), and Espresso 40ml (1.35 oz). To accommodate all these different cup sizes, the cup support at the front is adjustable to three positions or can even be removed completely for those giant Starbucks cups that everyone loves.

Nespresso Vertuo machines have Automatic blend recognition, it uses an intelligent extraction system that recognizes each coffee blend. This is thanks to a barcode on the rim of each of the coffee capsules.

Making a cup of coffee in the morning couldn’t get any easier as the Nespresso Vertuo Next has a simple one-touch brewing system. All you have to do is simply load your coffee pod into your machine and close the lever. Once it’s closed, leave the machine to work its magic. As the machine starts to brew your coffee, it pumps water into the pod and uses centrifugal force to spin it out at a much higher pressure than conventional machines do. It spins the capsule up to 4000 rotations per minute, blending the fresh ground coffee with the hot water producing the perfect coffee with the perfect crema topping for each cup of coffee made. This gives you the coffee shop experience from your own home. I mean, you couldn’t get any easier than that. Most coffee machines on the market just pump hot water through coffee grounds that are stored in a pod, not giving you the morning coffee you deserve.

This Nespresso machine also comes with the brand new feature of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so you can easily update the coffee machine’s software with new coffee capsule flavors as they come out. As I mentioned before, each coffee pod capsule has a unique barcode that allows the machine to read precisely what brew each one is, from long coffees to espressos and everything in between. How cool is that?

Are the Nespresso pods recyclable?

Nespresso is also doing its bit for a sustainable future. Their new Vertuo coffee machines are made up of 54% recycled plastic and their packaging is 95.5% recycled cardboard. The pods are also recyclable. The Nespresso Club offers complementary recycling services to its Club Members. You can also order a pick-up service to recycle your pods if you’re not a member.

How Big is the Nespresso Vertuo Next?

The footprint of this coffee machine is quite small, with the dimensions being 142 x 429 x 314 mm / 5.5 x 16.9 x 12.4 in, and it only weighs 4 kg / 8.8 lbs. This machine will fit comfortably on any worktop space. The water tank situated on the back of the machine holds 1.1ltrs which is about 4 mugs.

Nespresso also offers fruity, vanilla, hazelnut, and coconut coffee flavors, too. I have noticed that none of the Nespresso coffees for the Vertuo machines seem to have any milky or creamy blends as of yet, so if you’re looking for a milky coffee I would suggest getting yourself a separate Nespresso milk frother like the Aeroccino 4. What Pods Are Compatible With the Nespresso Vertuo Machines?

You can now purchase Starbucks Vertuo pods, which are compatible with the whole range of Vertuo coffee machines, which is exciting as other top brands will likely follow suit. When I filmed my review of this coffee machine you were unable to find compatible brands, which was a big downside. Starbucks coffee pods are easy to buy at top supermarket chains, which makes buying the pods even easier as you can just add them to your weekly shop.

Are the Nespresso Capsules Expensive?

The Nespresso Vertuo capsules have a reputation for being expensive and I heard that it would make a huge dent in my purse buying them. But when I went to their website to place my first order of capsules, the average price per capsule was around 60c, or less. To be honest, I was quite pleased with that price. It’s a lot cheaper than any coffee shop coffee you can buy. Thinking about it, the price for a Starbucks solo espresso costs about €1.70 so 60c without the hassle of leaving your home is a great price to pay.

What Flavors do Nespresso do?

Nespresso has 5 different-sized capsules, from single Espresso to Alto-sized coffees. They have a huge range of around 35 different flavors of coffee which are available to buy all year round. Nespresso also releases limited edition flavors each season. This summer they had tropical coconut flavors that could be served over ice, ice leggero, and ice forte, which were all delicious. During Autumn they had a very yummy pumpkin spice cake coffee. Nespresso ended last year with a couple of Christmas favorites peppermint pinwheels and gingerbread. Gingerbread coffee is a must-try and one of my favorites for the festive season.

How to Clean the Nespresso Vertuo Next Machine?

To clean your Nespresso Vertuo Next coffee machine, you’ll need to first fill the tank with water and connect it to the back of the machine.
Open up the lid of the coffee machine and press the button on top until it’s illuminated and not flashing.
Next, close the lid of the coffee machine and push the lever to the locked position.
Place a jug onto the collection point on the front of the coffee machine.
Push the button of the top three times within 2 seconds and the cleaning cycle will start.
The cleaning cycle will take a few minutes from start to finish.
Once the cleaning cycle has finished, you’re ready to make your first coffee.

How to Descale the Nespresso Vertuo Next Machine?

The instructions written in the booklet and the Nespresso how-to video were actually quite confusing, and I wasn’t the only one who found this descaling process a little hard to understand. 1. First, fill the water tank at the back with 1 packet of Nespresso descaling solution and 500 milliliters of water.
2. Place an empty measuring jug at the front to catch wastewater from the descaling process.
3. Turn on the machine by plugging it in.
4. Turn the lever at the top to unlock the Nespresso machine.
5. Hold the button for 7 seconds until it blinks orange.
6. Lock it again and unlock it again.
7. Hold the button for 7 more seconds until it blinks orange.
8. Then finally lock it one more time and press the button once.
9. The descaling process will start.
10. Once the descaling treatment in the tank has run empty, the machine will continue to blink orange.
11. Empty the measuring jug at the front.
12. Now remove and clean the tank, and refill it with fresh water.
13. Replace the tank at the back of the coffee machine and press the button one last time to complete the rinse cycle.
14. When the rinse cycle has been completed, it will blink white and then stay white.
    Now it’s time to make a coffee.

CONS

• This Vertuo Next machine is part of a new generation of coffee machines, using centrifugal force technology, so finding cheaper compatible brands that sell the new style pods with the barcode can be difficult. As mentioned above Starbucks now makes compatible pods for the new machines, so I’m sure that your favorite leading coffee brands will follow suit really soon.
• The tank only holds 1.1 liters (about 4 mugs worth of water) so if you plan on having guests over for a coffee morning, you might want to refill the tank first.
• The Nespresso Vertuo capsules don’t seem to have any milky or creamy blends as of yet, so if you like your coffee with milk you will need to think about purchasing a separate milk frother too.
• The coffee comes out at the perfect temperature, but if you were to add cold milk or cream to your coffee it will be warmer rather than hot. So again, if you like your coffee with milk, I would suggest buying the Nespresso Aeroccino 4 milk frother which produces two types of milk foam, hot, and cold.
