If you follow Love food Feeds social media, you’ll know that I love Donuts of all shapes, sizes and flavors. This is my go-to fried donut recipe. You won’t believe how quick and easy it is to make donuts and there ready in no time at all. I love eating warm donuts covered in cinnamon sugar. They taste way better than any store bought donuts that I’ve tasted.

There are no donut shops near me and its very hard to find anywhere that sells Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts. So the next best thing, is to make your donuts from scratch at home. This cinnamon donut recipe makes the perfect bakers dozen (13).

How to make donuts?

Making fried donuts is super simple. Start by whisking the eggs in a measuring jug. Then add in the butter and warm milk; once the butter has melted add in the yeast and give a little stir. Now in a Pyrex bowl, add in your dry and wet ingredients and mix together into a soft dough. Next, knead the donut dough for a minute and turn it into a dough ball. Return your dough ball back into the Pyrex bowl and cover for about 20 minutes to rise. The donut dough will become bigger in size during this time. Flour a clean surface, grab a rolling pin and roll out your dough so its about 1cm think and using a donut cutter, cut out your round donut shapes.

How to fry donuts?

Heat your oil to 170 degrees. While the oil is heating up, leave your donuts to rise again. When the oil is heated up lower in your donuts carefully into the hot oil using a wire basket. Do your donuts in batches of two or three at a time depending on the size of you fryer. My Tefal fryer is very wide so I am able to fry quite a few donuts at once, saving me quite a bit of time. The donuts take about 1 minute each side; when one side is done turn over and fry the other side. When golden brown, remove the donuts from the oil and place onto a plate with a couple of squares of kitchen roll. This will help soak up any excess oil. Place your donuts onto a wire rack to finish cooling.

That’s your basic donut recipe, now you just need to top with your favorite topping or glaze. This time I coated my fried donuts with cinnamon sugar. To be honest, these donuts taste amazing when they are still warm.

Is it better to bake or fry donuts?

It really depends on personal preference. Baked donuts are typically lower in fat and calories because they don’t require oil for cooking. They also tend to be lighter and fluffier. Fried donuts are usually denser, richer, and more flavorful. They also tend to have a crispier exterior. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which type of donut you prefer.

How do you keep sugar donuts from getting soggy?

To help keep sugar donuts from getting soggy, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. If you need to store them for longer than a day, it’s best to keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Additionally, avoid storing them in a humid environment as this can cause them to become soggy and lastly, make sure to let them cool completely before storing them.
