These Homemade Belgian Waffles are everything a waffle should be light and fluffy on the inside and perfectly crisp on the outside. A truly delicious easy waffle recipe.
First thing to do is preheat your waffle iron and set to one side.
In a mixing bowl add the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt and give it a little mix.
400 grams Plain flour, 1 Tablespoon Baking powder, 3 Tablespoons Sugar, ½ Teaspoon Salt
Then, using two other mixing bowls, separate the egg whites, placing the egg whites in one bowl and the yolks in the other. Now whisk the egg whites until they form stiff peaks, then set to one side.
2 Large Eggs
Grab the mixing bowl with the egg yolks and add in the sunflower oil, milk, and vanilla extract and mix well.
Add in the egg yolk mixture to the bowl of dry ingredients and mix well until fully incorporated.
Lastly, fold in your egg whites slowly.
When your waffle iron has heated up, spray with a little nonstick cooking spray or spray oil.
Pour the waffle batter mix onto your waffle iron (the amount of batter depends on your waffle iron, so check the manufacturers manual first)
It only takes about a minute to cook each waffle.
Remove from the waffle iron and top with your favorite toppings.
Serve your freshly cooked waffles immediately and enjoy.
Notes
Tips & TricksAlways make sure your waffle maker is fully preheated before adding in the batter. If the waffle iron isn't brought up to temperature, your waffles could be compromised, leaving you with a less than perfect breakfast.Don't be tempted to over fill your waffle griddle; the waffle batter will spread out once the lid is closed and the waffle also expands while cooking, creating a light and airy waffle.Don't open the lid of your waffle maker before its finished cooking. As peeking may result in you having to change the waffle cooking time (opening the lid lowers the temperature) or even worse, you could end up with broken waffles.
